April 07, 2006 :
Today will be catch-up day. I have been jotting down URLs to link to so
here goes.

1) NASA picture of shadow cast by moon on the earth.

NASA has a picture of the shadow cast by the moon on the earth during the
recent eclipse.

I saved a a local copy of a low-res version:

If you download the hi-res images you can see tiny pin-points of light in
the middle of the shadow. I don't know for sure but I suspect they are
from cities.

2) Oded Shenkar talks about China's economy.

There is an interesting talk given by Oded Shenkar available as an MP3
file.

The speaker argues that China will overtake the US as the world's largest
economy within the next 20 years. He compares the modern day USA with
Britain in the 19th century.

3) D-Link NAT devices use NTP server without permission.

D-Link has hard-coded addresses of Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers into
the firmware of several products.

The problem with this is that the administrator for one of the NTP servers
being used is not happy that his server has to bear the load due to D-Link
customers.

Further the published access policy for this NTP server forbids use of the
server for anything other than Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) servers run by
the Danish Internet Exchange (DIX).

After five months without a fix or apology from D-Link the admin has
publicly posted details of his complaint.

Update: archive.org has a copy of the now removed complaint.

4) Photos of atomic bomb moments after explosion.

I saw a couple interesting photos of the first moments after an atomic bomb
is exploded. At first I thought I was looking at an image of a microbe.
