June 10, 2006 :
I was out of town for a bit and it is the weekend now so today is yet
another catch-up day. :)

1) Web-based graph plotting tool.

There is a really neat graph plotting tool that runs in a web browser.
Check it out over at http://www.walterzorn.com/grapher/grapher_e.htm

2) How to get a job paying more than $100k per year.

There is an article titled "How to get a job paying more than $100,000 a

 - Get an education and qualifications in your chosen profession
 - Choose the right geographic location
 - Polish up your resume
 - Improve your job interviewing technique
 - Get an entry-level position in your new profession
 - Change jobs and employer
 - Change jobs and employer again, and again

Have a look at it over at

3) Book: My Job Went to India by Chad Fowler

On a related note if you have not yet read "My Job Went to India" by Chad
Fowler you should check it out. It is aimed at programmer jobs but really
anyone should learn something from it.

4) Harvard is "a day care center for college students".

Harry R. Lewis - aformer dean of Harvard College - said Harvard is being
run as "a day care center for college students". He has released a book
titled "Excellence Without a Soul: How a Great University Forgot Education".

The following article states parents "routinely call professors to complain
about their children's grades, he writes, and they believe that the
university should erase any evidence of bad academic performance or
personal misconduct, excusing those failings as symptoms of psychiatric
problems or disabilities."

Also "Lewis also defends grade inflation, a problem that has brought
Harvard national ridicule. The trend matters little, he says, because
grades are meant to serve as educational tools, not credentials for
prospective employers."

My "pending" reading list already has 96 items on it. I now have more to
add. :)

6) Photos of "abandonments. decay. industrial mayhem".

Here is a link to several dozen photos of "abandonments. decay. industrial
