1) New adhesive that stays sticky underwater.

  Geckel, as it is called, functions like a sticky note that works in both
  dry and wet conditions.

  Geckos are small lizards famous for their ability to scurry up vertical
  walls or hang upside down on ceilings.
  
  Their feet have flat pads densely packed with very fine hairs that divide
  at the ends. The large number of surface contact points created by the
  split-end hairs generates a powerful but temporary adhesion force. The
  same strategy is used by a fly climbing up a window pane.
  
  Geckos' feet lose their stickiness in water - but this is not a problem
  for the mussel. The shellfish produces a protein glue that cements it
  hard onto the slimiest seaside rocks.
